Haag Engineering is seeking a Senior Accountant : Payroll to perform accounting and payroll work under the direction of the Controller. Including the tasks of carrying out general ledger account reconciliation as well as other accounting operations. Manage staff payroll, compliance, internal controls, and related accounting for multi:state payrolls. Provide complex analytics, oversee audits, and complete forecasts and budgets. Provide backup for cash management and banking functions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Produce accounting work including complex general ledger entries, reconciliations, and account analysis.
Prepare detailed analysis, supporting schedules, and detailed internal control documents for any audit.
Prepare certain forecasts and budgets in coordination with Controller, VP Finance, and/or CFO
Summarize trends; acknowledge queries; draft reports, and create reports as needed.
Create, develop, monitor and upgrade as appropriate certain internal accounting policies, procedures and controls
Perform bank functions to include deposit and balance records, schedule of accounts and balances, funds transfers, and general ledger entries and reconciliations.
Assist in the month end close processes
Processes Payroll on a Bi:weekly and Monthly basis
Prepares all payroll:related reports as necessary, and prepares remittance checks as necessary for garnishments.
Prepares related general journal entries and posts to the General Ledger accounts
Provides routine information orally or in writing in response to inquiries on financial records
Answers questions from staff regarding payroll information
Reviews for accuracy W:2 forms for employees and 1099 forms for vendors as mandated by law and distributes by January 31 of each year
Prepares and maintains filing of payroll related documents
Prepares and/or is responsible for the preparation and timely submission of audit reports to respective agencies
Reviews and computes timesheets regarding hours worked, deductions, overtime, leave, tax changes, etc.
Makes adjustments and revisions in payroll rates or deductions
Prepares and processes payroll deductions by forwarding appropriate reports and payments for deductions including, but not limited to, child support, insurance, garnishments, etc.
Education: A degree in accounting, finance or related field.
Certifications: Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Certified Professional Accountant (CPA) preferred
Relevant Work Experience: At least five years of practical experience in General Ledger accounting, actual accounting, and/or payroll processing.
Computer Experience: Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office. Advanced Excel preferred. At least five years of operational experience utilizing accounting software packages such as Navision, SAP, Oracle or other financial systems. Experience in payroll and timekeeping processing systems such as Paycom, ADP, Kronos, or other
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Thorough knowledge of the principles and procedures used in GAAP accounting
Display proficiency in general payroll practices, as well as federal tax regulations and policies
Ability to formulate logical decisions
Ability to plan and schedule work assignments with fluctuating work volume
Ability to meet stringent deadlines
Skill in mathematical computations, i.e. fractions, decimals, percentages
Practices good judgment
Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies
Ability to manage complete third:party payroll system configuration and setup activities. Paycom and or Navision experience prefe
