This position is responsible for the setup and maintenance of fuel tax related systems (Accounting, ERP, compliance), internal control (SOX) compliance as well as the preparation of and reconciliation of motor fuel tax returns.Setup and maintain systems used for motor fuel tax determination, compliance, and payments. Keep current on law and/or technology changes to identify and implement best practice methods and opportunities for process improvement.Setup and maintain tax configurations for accounting systems (e.g. PDI, Oracle) used to record and report motor fuel related transactions. Analyze and evaluate tax related components of motor fuels transactions in conjunction with Fuel Accounting to identify and resolve errors. Extract and import accounting system data necessary to complete motor fuel tax compliance, audits, and notice responses.Prepare and reconcile motor fuels tax returns for assigned jurisdictions. Work with team members to analyze data and prepare complete, timely, and accurate tax returns.Support and prepare fuel tax related internal control (SOX) compliance. Specifically includes documentation and evaluation of motor fuel tax related processes and systems to enhance internal control structure and mitigate tax related risks.Work with department management, IT, and other external parties on special projects and M and A. Specifically includes assisting in the design and implementation of various process improvements to support scalable business growth and accurately documenting and communicating tax related business processes (including obstacles, inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement).Gather and analyze data as well as prepare responses to taxing authority inquiries, notices, and audit requests for assigned jurisdictions.Education: Bachelors 4 year degree in Accounting/Information Systems. CPA/CPA eligible preferredExperience: 4+ years Motor Fuels Tax, Accounting (SOX), Information SystemsExperience in Motor Fuels Tax laws, regulations, and systems.Excellent reasoning, research and problem solving skills.Ability to analyze data, make recommendations and explain it in simplistic terms to others.Ability to work with high volume of data with extensive attention to detail and precise calculations.Avalara Returns Excise, PDI, Excel, Access, OracleInternal Posting Period: May 1 : May 12.
